From the Blog Herald:

WordPress just broke a new record having served up over a million downloads. The number will undoubtedly continue to exponentially grow and I congratulate the developers for their hard work and persistance.

That’s quite a milestone for a blogging software. Kudos to WordPress and the developers!! *woot*

If you’re like us and hate prefer not to use Microsoft’s products but can’t get away from Word (.doc) documents then this is a good thing for all of us.

ajaxWrite is a web-based word processor that can read and write Microsoft Word and other standard document formats. Anytime you need to open, read or write a word processor file, simply point your Firefox browser to www.ajaxwrite.com and in seconds a full-featured program will be available for you to open, edit, print and save.

The best thing is that it runs on Firefox (yay no IE) and it’s FREE! You can see some screenshots here or go straight to www.ajaxwrite.com to give it a test drive.

BrowserShots - Test Your Site in Different Browsers

June 27th, 2006

browsershots.png

BrowserShots is a great and easy way to test your site in different browsers without having to load the individual browsers themselves. This makes a good shortcut for site creators to make sure their site will work in every browser without a glitch.

Ther mission statement:

In our dreams, the web looks good for all users. So we let web designers view screenshots of their pages in different browsers, at different screen resolutions and with different plugins. We’re trying to make this service easy to use, open for all (including access to the source code) and 100% free, as in free beer.

Yes free is great but as most free online tools they’re usually overloaded fully utilized so sometimes it takes a few tries before you can actually make use of it. Still it’s a great service and it’s really worth supporting.

DoSize - Resize and send your digital photo images online in 3 easy steps!

DoSize is an Web 2.0 application that automates resizing and sending pictures online. You can resize your digital photo images in 3 easy steps. This website is really handy for those of you who don’t have any graphics skills and are unarmed with any image editing software on your computer. DoSize is free. It’s easy. It’s fun. It’s online.

We are a group of people who share a desire to make it easier for “common” people to share their personal digital photos. We discovered that many people, although Flickr exists, use e-mail to share quickly a couple of pictures with friends and family… but they just don’t know how to resize them to fit them in an email.

Video Downloader Extension for Firefox

Video Downloader Extension for Firefox

Everybody loves videos and rich media content. Unfortunately for most of us non-geeks it’s not exactly easy to grab those videos, mp3s, flash animations, etc. and save them on our harddrives. Until now that is, since Firefox released an extension that let you download videos from Youtube, Google, Metacafe, iFilm, Dailymotion… and other 60+ video sites. The downloader also allows you to download all embedded objects on a webpage, directly.

VideoDownloader add a small icon on the status bar at the bottom of your firefox window, and a toolbar button. Just click that and download the video you are watching.

Here is a flick that shows how it works.

iWEBTOOL - FREE Webmaster Tools

November 28th, 2005

iWEBTOOL is a FREE online internet tools resource. Some of the tools include gems like Backlink Checker that informs you who is linking to your site and gives you their page rank, Keyword Suggestion which displays the ten most popular keywords matching your suggested word or phrase and the Link Popularity Checker that finds out how many times you are listed on the three main search engines, Google, Yahoo and MSN Search.

The Google Rank Predictor is my favourite tool, but don’t take the results seriously as this is a just-for-fun tool. I also liked the Website Speed Test for testing the load time of your sites and the Spider View for seeing your web pages the way Spider Bots view them.
